Pilot Parents – matching parents who have children with any special need with trained volunteer parents to help them with the life changes involved in parenting a child with special needs. Training for volunteer mentor parents will be held this spring.

Opening Doors – helping families who have children with special needs with child care concerns including child care and respite care. We also provide training for child care providers to better equip them to care for children with special needs including Project EXCEPTIONAL training sessions.

Sibsday Events – special events held 3-4 times each year for children who have brothers and sisters with any special need. The purpose is to recognize the unique role siblings play in the life of their brother or sister with special needs. Children ages 7 years through 12 years of age are invited to participate.

  Fetal Alcohol Syndrome/Effect – prevention and education. The number one preventable cause of mental retardation is drinking during pregnancy. We promote awareness and prevention by outreach, training and informational efforts.

Information - Locally produced newsletter 6 times per year. Information and referral for assisting individuals and families locate resources. Sponsoring and co-sponsoring workshops and conferences for families and professionals. Lending Resource Library of materials available to community members at no charge.

Community Based Social Events including an annual summer picnic, Christmas Party and Project Challenge Dances. Leisure Resource Funds financial assistance for members. Fundraising events including Rose Sale, Golf Tournament and Buddy Walk.

  Individuals who need assistance in navigating the complex maze of governmental, health care and educational agencies. Our goal is to help families and individuals receive services they need and equip them to advocate for themselves.

Systems Advocacy – include monitoring legislation, participating on various committee representing the needs of people with developmental disabilities. We also provide information on life planning including conservatorship/guardianship.

People First is a newly formed group for adults with developmental disabilities and related conditions to learn more about self-advocacy.
